The Ducati Monster 2021 is now lighter, more elegant and more compact than ever before. We were recently invited by Ducati India to the international Buddh Circuit to experience it. Here is a list of things you need to know about the bike.
Design of the Monster Ducati 2021: Italian motorcycle manufacturers have presented the BRAND NEW Monster Ducati 2021 with a world premiere online. The surprise for Ducatisti is that the new monster will not look like the previous iteration, since the monster models were previously known for their chunky and bold design language. Ducati says that this new monster draws its DNA from the 1993 model and, in particular, reflects what is needed to have the most fun while riding a bike. In other words, an engine, a seat, a tank, a handlebar. In addition, it contains all the elements that distinguish the iconic Monster models: the Bison rear tank, a rounded lighthouse and a clean tail section.
Chassis Ducati Monster 2021: the chassis is one of the most important improvements of the new Monster. Ducati used an aluminum front frame inspired by its flagship motorcycle, the Panigale V4. This device was installed directly on the engine and eliminates the use of the grid frame that Monster models have been using for so long. This also helped them to reduce a lot of unnecessary weight and get closer to competitors in the segment of naked street wrestler. The new aluminum front frame weighs only 3 kg, almost 4.5 kg less than the mesh frame.
Ducati Monster Engine 2021: the new monster is powered by the desmodrome Testastretta 11° two-cylinder engine with 937 cm3. In the last version, its weight was reduced (-2.4 kg) and now reaches new performance and ease of use. It is the same engine as in the Supersport 950 and Hypermotard 950. Compared to the predecessor 821, the displacement, power, torque and weight (-2.4 kg) increases to increase the lightness of the motorcycle and provide better handling. It now delivers 111 hp at 9,250 rpm and a peak torque of 95 Nm at 6,500 rpm. With a combination of the new wheels, the swingarm, a smaller tank and other components, a total of 18 kg has been reduced compared to the previous model and the bike now has a drivable weight of only 188 kg. The power is delivered gently with the coarse grunt of the engine emitted by the new dual-barrel exhaust unit rolling flat, while the bi-directional quickshifter with the bike has shown how good that can be for a road bike.
Ergonomics and handling of Ducati Monster 2021: the new chassis has also brought some changes to the ergonomics. The handlebars were brought closer to the pilot’s fuselage by about 7 cm in order to have a more vertical driving position, which guarantees greater comfort and control. The position of the feet has also been changed, and the legs are now less curled up. Ducati says that all this leads to greater ease of driving, even in city traffic. On the track, the motorcycle was a pleasure to ride because of its light weight and ease of sliding in a series of turns. The driving position seemed natural and the seat was comfortable enough for that day of the track. What’s new is that the bike now uses a pair of Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tires, which gave me confidence and allowed me to push harder at each passing session.
